Dorothy Loretta “Dot” Bukowski, age 94 of Southfield, formerly of Detroit, passed away, Thursday, December 22, 2016. She was born in New York City, New York on February 5, 1922 to Arthur J. and Dorothy (née Grotz) Ellis.
Dot was a proud 1943 graduate of the University of Detroit earning a Bachelor’s Degree in English. She was a longtime parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Detroit and the Church of the Transfiguration (formerly St. Michael’s) Parish in Southfield. She was beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be missed greatly.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert Bernard (2008), who she married October 18, 1947 in Ferndale; dear son, Paul Bernard Bukowski (1972); and brother-in-law, Ken Ague. Surviving her are children, Mary Diane Bukowski, Michael Robert (Karen Kulik) Bukowski, Mark Ellis (Cecilia) Bukowski, John William (Theresa Pellerito) Bukowski, Eileen Dorothy (Ron) Stadler, and Jean Frances MacNall; ten grandchildren, Arthur Bukowski, Allison (Nick) Kadlec, Jessica Bukowski, Sarah (Ikolo) Griffin, Paul Bukowski, Heather (Ryan) Giacona, Steven (fiancée Lilliah) Churchill, Rachel Churchill, Michelle MacNall, and Kyle (fiancée Kristen) MacNall; five great grandchildren, Gavin, Paige, Anthony, Matthew, and Carter; dear sisters, Gloria (Don) Shuster and Ardith Ague; and many nieces and nephews and numerous other friends and family.
As the last of her generation in our family, she was the matriarch that we all loved and respected. Her memories will live on in us forever and her kind manners will be emulated in our hearts and actions. She was a generous and beautiful mom to us all and always placed her loved ones first. Our family and all those who knew Mom have been truly blessed to have known her.
The family will receive friends Monday 2-8 PM with a 7 PM Rosary at the Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home, 2125 12 Mile Road, Berkley (two blocks west of Woodward). Mrs. Bukowski will lie in state Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass 10:00 AM at the Church of the Transfiguration, 25225 Code Rd, Southfield (1/4 Mile west of Lahser Road at Ten Mile Road). Private burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family desires donation in her memory to either the Capuchin Soup Kitchen or the Solanus Casey Center.
